Ancient Egypt, ---- B.C.E
Throughout my time here in ancient Egypt, I have studied a few inventions from Ancient Egyptian time. I studied wigs, ink, and the Solar calander. I made entries on all three of these subjects. I hope you find this site useful!

Wigs
Ancient Egypt, 1353 B.C.E
One of the inventions that I am investigating is the ancient Egyptian wig, also known as the Nubian wig. These wigs are very popular during Akhenaten's (the Pharaoh) reign. I was asking around to try to find out why people wore these wigs, and came up with a fairly clear answer. People in Ancient Egypt really care about their looks. The clothes that they wear, their hairstyles, their overall appearance, shows status and class. People shave their head and wear a wig, which actually helped with the heat. Also ancient Egyptians wear wigs when they got old and their hair fell out. Mostly, wigs are worn for special occasions. That is why ancient Egyptians wear wigs. Wigs are still worn in modern time, but the significance changed greatly. In modern time, when we get old and lose our hair we will wear a wig, same with ancient Egyptians, that is one similarity between the two wigs, but in modern time, people don't wear wigs for special occasions.

Ink
Ancient Egypt, ---- B.C.E
Another invention I am studying is Black Ink. I asked my neighbors how the black ink is made and they told me that black ink is made from vegetable gum, bee wax, and soot. Not only did they find a way to write down information, but they made the ink so that it would last for centuries! The most common colors ancient Egyptians write with are red and black. Black ink is used for the text, and the red ink is for he titles and headings so that they stand out. Both of these colors are made naturally, but the ancient Egyptians also made the first artificial ink; They made blue. This invention definitely lasted. We use ink all the time even though we have more colors and use pens. People use ink everyday in their lives, this invention is definitely useful.

(The reason all of the titles and headings are red is because ancient Egyptians used red with titles and headings)
Solar calendars
Ancient Egypt, 3000 B.C.E
Another invention I looked into, is the solar calendar. This calendar is one of the most interesting I looked into. The solar calendar has 10 days in a week, 3 weeks in a month, 4 months in a season, and 3 seasons and 5 holy days in a year. the five holy days are for the gods Osiris, Iris, Horus, Seth, and Nephthys. Altogether there are 365 days in a year, same as modern time. Even though we don't use solar calendars, we use calendars similar to the solar calendar. It has the same amount of days even though the amount of days in a week, a month, etc. are different.

Papyrus
Ancient Egypt, ---- B.C.E
This invention, Papyrus, is a type of paper made of the pith of the Cyperus Papyrus plant. Just like their other invention, ink, this type of paper can last for centuries. Papyrus eventually went extinct in Egypt. We use paper in modern time, but we do not use papyrus. The ancient Egyptians' invention helped create modern paper.

Surgical Instruments
Ancient Egypt, ---- B.C.E
Surgical instruments in ancient Egypt help Egyptians do small surgeries. They don't do any big surgeries, but the small ones that they did do help them learn. Ancient Egyptians used surgical instruments for dislocated bones, they also sewed wounds with a needle and thread. Surgical instruments did last to modern time, even though our equipment is far more advanced than theirs. The surgical instruments impacted modern time greatly, we are now able to do real surgeries and save lives.
